Therapeutic Technology
Our hospital provides leading-edge technology – as well as therapists trained to use it best – to ensure our patients are positioned to recover as quickly as possible.
Innovative Solutions for Superior Outcomes
New technology continues to push the boundaries of what was once considered full recovery from certain injuries or conditions. Today, for instance, top inpatient rehabilitation facilities deploy robotic tools that give stroke patients the ability to use their upper extremities again or help spinal cord injury patients with early ambulation.
UCI Health – Irvine Rehabilitation Hospital provides leading-edge technology – as well as therapists trained to use it best – to ensure our patients are positioned to recover as quickly as possible.
Here are some examples of some of the industry’s best technology deployed at our hospital:
Rise&Walk®
The Rise&Walk®, a full-spectrum gait trainer, is rehabilitation technology designed to provide activity-based therapy in seated, standing and walking modes. The adjustable assistance features are designed to challenge users and promote functional recovery. It targets muscle groups important for walking and facilitates locomotor-related movements to help a wide range of patients recovering from neurological injuries. It is the first-ever sit-and-stand device that replicates up to three different therapy modalities, giving clinicians more flexibility in a therapy session.

Neuro Rehab VR
Neuro Rehab VR is transforming patient rehabilitation through an innovative blend of artificial intelligence, immersive virtual reality and clinical expertise. Designed specifically for patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, or managing neurodegenerative diseases, Neuro Rehab VR’s Smart TherapyTM Complete Solution provides personalized, gamified therapy exercises that can be adapted in real-time to each patient’s abilities and therapeutic needs.
By integrating cognitive and physical therapies within immersive virtual environments, Neuro Rehab VR significantly boosts patient motivation and engagement, accelerating recovery and improving therapeutic outcomes. This AI-driven solution not only enhances patient experiences but also dramatically streamlines clinician workflows, reduces burnout and provides administrators with valuable insights, ensuring scalable and impactful care delivery across diverse healthcare settings.

Senaptec Sensory Station
The Senaptec Sensory Station is a state-of-art sensory evaluation and training station that assesses ten visual and sensorimotor skills. The technology measures and trains an individual’s strengths and opportunities to improve sensory performance. The Senaptec Sensory Station is a software solution that provides a comprehensive sensory evaluation and training to maximize performance.

Car Simulator
Our Car Simulator is fully integrated into our rehab gym, allowing our patients to learn and practice car transfer skills year-round. These training activities are essential to preparing our patients for community reintegration and setting them up for success when getting back to their daily activities.
Ampcare ESP
Ampcare ESP is a specialized treatment to help patients improve their swallowing ability so they can eat and drink normal food textures. The equipment has electrical stimulation pads that go to the swallowing muscles to assist a patient with their swallowing ability. It stimulates important swallow anatomy, providing airway resistance and speeds up airway closure time, thus reducing chances of aspiration.

LiteGait®
LiteGait® is a body weight support system and gait training device that provides a safe environment for patients to participate in gait training over a treadmill or over ground. This system allows patients to begin gait training earlier in the rehabilitation process than would be feasible with any other assistive device. The LiteGait system eliminates the fear of falling and/or loss of balance with standing and walking tasks, and allows the therapist to provide manual assistance to facilitate proper gait patterns.

Overhead Body Weight Support System
Our overhead body weight support system is a ceiling-mounted harness that automatically adjusts to a patient’s center of gravity during movement. It allows patients to safely experience a fall and recovery, helping them build comfort and confidence while performing a variety of activities with consistent body-weight support. This also enables therapists to concentrate on movement quality and overall mobility. The system supports patients across a wide range of mobility levels and can be used to treat conditions such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, and orthopedic injuries.

Burt®
Burt® is an upper limb therapy robot that uses smooth, natural movements to help patients regain mobility. It gently supports the arm and provides light guidance during movement to help patients feel how to complete each exercise safely and correctly. With multiple therapy modes and activities that build strength, coordination, and cognition, Burt makes rehabilitation more engaging and personalized, bringing patients a renewed sense of hope on the path to recovery.

NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainer
A recumbent cross trainer that sets an unparalleled standard for total body exercise in a comfortable seated position.
- Works all major muscle groups and gives an effective cardiovascular workout
- Allows a person to move arms and legs in a single, dependent motion that stimulates walking with the added benefit of resistance training
